Thumbs down Flyglobespan - I Don't Think So

Here's an article about Flyglobespan losing it's "ETOPS" licence, which permits it to take the shortest route across the Atlantic Ocean, on flights between the UK and North America. The first UK operator to lose such a licence.

It's laughable to think that they have been using a Boeing 737 on flights between Liverpool & New York City.

They probably would have had some more, but, they kept on cancelling flights due to mainainance issues.

we flew with them in the summer and out of 6 separate flights, 4 were absolutely fine, 1 had a 6 hour delay and 1 had minor delay with a flight crew who refused to serve water to passengers.

you get what you pay for.

So does Air France not have this Etops thingy? I may be just dumb but I could never figure why it had to fly over half of canada before going down to the US rather than just going over the atlantic. I thought we might be stopping to pick up more people. Like the 67 bus to Cadishead

I thought it was because on Northern Atlantic routes they like to stay close to land mass...near airports in case of difficulty...the weather is also a factor.

I may be wrong, but I think all twin engine planes have to take this route. Planes with four engines can fly straight across, i believe, thus cutting journey times. I think Virgin used to boast that it was quicker than most of the other carriers because it used four-engined planes on trans-atlantic routes, enabling them to hop straight across the pond.
