Better that than some people in OH, and KS whose residents have a State minimum wage lower than the Federal minimum wage...

agreed.....is it like the uk were the goverment will bring your wage up to £21k if as a family you earn less than that?

I don't think it works like that in the US (not at a Federal level at least).

There's exempt and non-exempt employees and FLSA. You can read oodles about those three topics and learn so much about employment practices and law in the USA.

Santa Fe has a minimum wage law: Now at $8.50/hr. Goes up to $9.50/hr next year, and $10.50/hr in 2008.

tip based jobs minimum wage is now $3.13.....an 88 cent increase for me!!!!

It would be a virtual impossibility to live where I am in South Florida on $6.15 per hour. That wouldnt even pay the rent on a 1 bed apartment in the shitty end of town.
