First U.S. Passport how long is it good for?

I applied for my first united states passport...I am a new citizen. Does anyone know how many years your first passport is good for?

Thanks,

DA

Actually, the answer depends on how old you were when you got your passport.

I see that you're a new member but from the four threads you've started so far, it's evident that you don't bother spending 1-2 minutes looking stuff up before asking people to do it for you.

I recommend going to http://www.google.com and looking up "how long is a U.S. passport valid?" -- you should be able to find the answer in less time than it took for you to start this thread in the first place.

I suppose I could have googled it... but then what would be the purpose of this and other immigration forums like it?

It's 10 years either way. I got one as a child along with my mom and they both expired 10 years after receipt.

Edit: Here's information from the department of state.

A U.S. passport for an adult is valid for no longer than 10 years; a U.S. passport for a child under 16 is valid for no longer than 5 years.

If you are under 15 it is only valid for 5 years.

To help people who help themselves rather than spoon feed info that has been posted numerous times...

No it’s a valid question. Hope you know that participating in a forum is 100% voluntary...right? You don’t have to participate in these forums if you don’t want to especially if you are going to be Bit*h about it.

now now, that's not very nice....she was just pointing out that it would have been just as quick and easy to google that than post the question that's fairly easy to answer....it's simple forum ettiquette to at least search the forum, especially when one is new.

LOL - this is way too funny.

If anyone doesn't want to answer the question then don't. And for those who do - then please do.

Ding Ding! By George someone's finally got it. Make your responses count for something. Don't shrug your shoulders and say go search for it yourself. Obviously the poster was here was just being resourceful. No need to be in a hissy fit if she asked about something here. She wouldn't be the first person to ask for an answer that can obviously be found somewhere else whether it be here or on another site. Just be kind and provide help if you can.
