You can stay outside the US for up to a year with no problems. If you know you will be gone longer than that you must apply for a "re-entry" permit before you leave the US (one cannot get this outside the US as I understand it). This will allow you to remain outside the US for up to 2 years I believe. |
Re: first time to home..
If you do consider applying for naturalization asap, be aware not to stay outside US
for longer than 180 days per trip. Your clock towards naturalization re-starts if you are absent from the US soil for more than 180 days in a trip. Check the naturalization eligibility at INS's web site - www.ins.gov L D Jones <[email protected]> wrote in message news:<[email protected]>... > khai ko wrote: > > > > hi all, I am planning to go to my home country first time after i got my green > > card. Read the original post. "first time after I got my green card...." All you need is your green card and passport. |

In addition to your green card, you need your passport, unless you are going to Canada. Most airlines will not let you aboard if you don't have a passport and most countries will refuse entry, or at least make you go through lots of hoops without a passport. |
