Re: First Citation since moving to the US
The fact that it doesn't bring any points and is just a fine here means it's not worth the hassle and cost...

Of course every state is different, but here in Georgia, that would not be a points-carrying offense and would probably not need to be reported to your insurance company.
Here, speeding up to 15 over the limit is fined locally and over that, has to be sent to Atlanta and carries 3 points. Local police love to get you for 17 over and offering to reduce it if you pay up and don't contest it. What they really mean is "We're giving you a revenue ticket to swell our coffers and if Atlanta sees all the points, they'd jump on us, cos it's illegal!"
This happens much more than you think.

It shouldnt affect your insurance. I had a speeding ticket and my insurance didnt change however it does stay on your record for 6 years and if you get another citation it will affect insurance. Its also worth noting that if you receive a warning instead of a ticket these also stay on your record and if you get three in an 18 month period then you will get a fine and it will affect your insurance. This is in the state of MA not sure about other states.
