Finding a job..

Hi Gang,

Continuing in my series of random tangent questions I was wondering if there
was anything stopping me from applying for jobs in the USA right away? I
mean I could apply, attend interviews etc.. As long as I didn't start
working for any company before I got the correct employment authorization
documents it should be okay?

Whats the general consensus?

Regards

Dominic

You can search to your heart's extent.

You might be considered by your employer to have made a false
statement on your employment application where it asks about work
authorization, which is acceptable grounds for revokation of a job
offer. Also, if your available start date in indefinite or too far
into the future, that also is acceptable grounds for revokation of a
job offer.

it would only be a false statement if he didn't give the facts. as long as he's
clear about his position i can't see a problem. i was offered work in the US on
the understanding i wouldn't be able to take it up till i arrived in the US and
got authorisation. some employers are prepared to wait. my future employer even
wrote me a second letter six months down the line assuring me the offer was
still open.

best of luck with the work search.
