Default Fiance visas...please advise

Hi

I'm new here and I have a few questions!

I'm a UK citizen and my fiance is a US citizen. We want to get married in America and settle over there, and after researching this on the net we understand that he has to file a petition I-129F and then that has to be approved before it's passed on to the US Consulate over here.

Has anybody been through this before? How long roughly will it take? It says 6 months or so on the websites, but is this accurate? We obviously don't want to spend aeons apart!

Also, is there anything we need to worry about before we begin? Anything that might blow our chances? He is unemployed right now but searching for a job, and we don't plan to file until he's got a job and has been working in it for a while - for instance, is there any rules about how long he will have had to have been working?

This whole thing is pretty confusing and we really don't want to get it wrong, as we want to be together ASAP.

Any advice or info welcome, thanks in advance

Hi,

also on here is a marriage based forum which mainly deals with k1 visas

http://britishexpats.com/forum/forum...php?forumid=35

It isn't half as confusing as you think, I personally went through on a spousal visa so I recommend reposting on the marriage based forum and the guys going through the K1 will help you.

Here are some good sites you can do some research on, there are more but I don't want to overload you with experience

http://www.txdirect.net/users/mike38/k1faq.htm
http://www.kamya.com/interview/intro.html

The average time is between 3-5 months if everything goes smoothly

Good luck

Patrick

Initially you have to supply any relevant divorce papers and 1 copy, a photograph of you at 3/4 profile...left eye & right ear showing.. And fill in a form G 325-A. He then submits his relevant documentation, including tax returns to prove he earns 125% of the national average and can support you till you find employment.

This package is sent to the local centre, BUT make sure that your photo is submitted within 28 days of being taken, or it is not legally valid as a photograph of you in the eyes of the INS.

Yes, the wheels turn slowly, but they turn. Good luck, my fiancée has just submitted our initial documentation, and we hope to be married in VA by Thanksgiving.

Good luck

Hey Becka,

Im also aplying for a fiance visa...........im also from Hull, so we have 2 things in common. There is SO much you need/have to do in order to be with your fiancee.

One thing ive found IS NOT TO STRESS. Things happen when they happen! Just go with the flow! Another thing is to be completly honest in everything, even if it means the process is longer.

Keep checking in here, the info posted is SO amazing, ive learnt so much, the ppl who post in here know what they are talking about and want to help others. Its so great.

Good luck and let me know if you need anything, or if you want to meet to talk about it.........lemme know, id love to help in anyway. BTW where in America do you plan on living?

Email me, or reply!

Hey Shaun

Great to hear I've got a friend in the city! I'll be moving to Indiana, that's where my fiance lives. How about you?

What stage are you at right now? We haven't actually started yet! He's only just gone home after a visit here and we've just decided this is what we're going to do. We're going to try and get things moving ASAP though!

Thanks for your reply, my email is [email protected] if you want to talk.
