a few q's re the tax form 1040

Say for example year 2007 -

For the year start / ending - is this 5th april 2007 to 5th april 2008 as its within the UK tax year / P60?

Where do I send the forms? I thought the IRS in London usually accept them, on the link below it says they forward them to USA?

http://london.usembassy.gov/irs/irsoffice.html

i need to have the extra copies (1st page only) sent back stamped received for my immigrant visa application.

thanks - the guides on the wiki are excellent

The US tax year is Jan 1 through Dec. 31st.

Are you trying to file your taxes from overseas (outside the US)?

From your link:
All papers sent to IRS London will be routed to the proper office in the United States via regular mail. For faster processing, please mail your documents directly to the appopriate office in the U.S. using the contact information provided on this page.

I too have heard about getting a copy back stamped 'received'; I thought people turned them in at the Embassy and got one then and there.

Perhaps you can locate one of those people and send them a PM? Then post the answer back so all of us can know.

yeah from within the UK, and as the tax year is different i would think that it should be the UK dates for london, otherwise its calculations to work out the periods...

Check out www.talk.uk-yankee.com. That forum is for Yanks living in the UK. They have a whole sub-forum on UK/US taxes.

And yes, from what I understand, you have to do some calculations. You cannot use the UK tax year as the basis for what you made for the US tax year (if you get what I mean).

 So?

The US tax reporting period is January thru December. You report your income during those months.
