Lightbulb February is...

national Heart Health month (in the US).

For more information, see:
www.americanheart.org

Are you doing anything or starting anything this month to keep your heart healthy?

Did you know that heart disease is the biggest killer of women in the US? There is particular emphasis this month on women's heart health.

As my husband has bought me a heart monitor for my birthday it looks like I'm going to be going running! Also given up smoking!

Nope! You never noticed that the whole freakin' marketing world revolves around these so-called special ocassions. I mean, Xmas and holidays are the obvious ones. Clear the Xmas crap, get the Valentine goods in. But every day's a special day to market crap. For example, February is National Snack Food Month. Some irony there, me thinks with American Heart Month.

I pay no attention to the marketing side of holidays and occasions in the US. Don't bother with Valentine's Day either. I don't need guidance on when I should be buying presents to show affection/love for my spouse

Oh, there's healthy snacks out there. Dried fish, dried fruit, pretzels, popcorn, mini vegetables, rice crackers & rice cakes, soy nuts, dark chocolate (not American). That kind of thing....

Making myself hungry. Time to get out the dried fish!

Dried fish? :scared: Do you really eat that?!!! Heart disease is something we are very aware of in our house, I lost my Dad at just 54 to a fatal heart attack and he was very fit, in fact he died on the way home from a cycling trek with a friend and we had no idea that he had any problems with his heart. It is hard to be healthy all the time but I want to see my kids grow up so I do try to keep fit and skip the burger for a salad

One thing you should do is get a check up with your Doctor, insurance permitting. The cheaper option is to jjust have a blood test for cholestorol. Be aware of your own body. I speak from experience having smoked 55/60 fags a day. I have a blood check every year.

Yup. Imagine jerky but made of fish although the fish are tiny and whole so you get the tail, fins and of course, the eyes.

No need to give up burgers in my opinion. They're easier enough to make at home and you can also freezer them (uncooked) for later use.

Bison/buffalo burgers are very tasty too and so much leaner than beef. Ditto ostrich burgers.

My neice, at age 2.5 yrs old, was diagnosed with high cholestrol. Can you imagine at such a young age? Well, her mother's keeping an even closer eye on her daughter's diet now.

It's never too early to get into healthy habits.

bloody expensive though....but there is a hybrid of bison/buffalo, forget the name, sounds stupid, but it's not bad either...and slightly cheaper...also, if you can get it, lamb ain't a bad burger....but wasted in a burger i think

so what's a good cholesterol level?
