FATCA (FBAR, 8938) and Pensions

Hey all,

I am currently not at retirement age. Does the UK state pension need to be reported on an FBAR or Form 8938?

Thanks!

(EDIT - I should mention, I don't currently file either forms as I am not even close to the threshold needed to file with my UK accounts)

No, the UK State Pension does not have to be reported on either form.

Good to know - thanks for the answer.

I second guessed it because I assumed "contribution-based" pensions would be eligible, and technically you contribute to NI. I'm probably overthinking it!

On this page I guess it also answers my question, just as you did! - Comparison of Form 8938 and FBAR Requirements

Types of Foreign Assets and Whether They are Reportable
‘Social Security’- type program benefits provided by a foreign government
FBAR - No
Form 8938 - No
