Family moving to New York
Hi we’re a family with 3 young children moving to NYC for 3 years. Would love any advice in particular places to live - looking at Brooklyn around Park Slope but quite pricey however schools look good. Transfer with company so visa all sorted. Thinking about Airbnb to start off until we have a good look around. I keep hearing about get an AMEX card.... |
Re: Family moving to New York
So you'll be working in New York City and wanting to live in one of the outer Boroughs, i.e. Brooklyn. There are quite a few Brits in Brooklyn, but yes, as you are discovering, it is an expensive place to live. Often the expat will go to New Jersey or to Westchester County, New York or even to Connecticut. All of those areas are pricey due to the good transportation to and from Manhattan for work.
Expats have found that getting an Amex card while still residing in the UK and then transferring it to a US Amex card was easy and helped them build up the credit that they needed for purchasing/leasing power. |

Just curious..why specifically three years?
I think airbnb could be very expensive. You could also check out corporate housing. |
