Default Family death in UK/My passport is in renewal...

We received news at lunchtime that my father-in-law in London suffered a fatal heart attack. My husband (UKC) of course wants to get over there asap to be with his mum. Unfortunately - I sent my US passport off two weeks ago to be renewed and it has not been returned yet.

I have contacted my local Representative. His office has their own Passport/Immigration Specialist who told me that there is a special Congressional Unit in each passport agency. She contacted them (apparently, my passport is being processed in New Hampshire) and asked them to expedite my passport due to a death in the family. She said that basically she sends the Congressional Unit a high priority email and also leaves a message on a special phone line ..... they are supposed to call her back.

My question is: has anyone ever had the situation where their passport was "pulled" from processing and FedEx'd to them?

Thanks,

Denise

I used to work on Capitol Hill and we would request things like that. It's not going to be overnight though--probably a day or two--depends on the service center. It takes a while to filter those things down, and then it takes about an hour or so to actually run the processing.

You might consider sending your husband over ASAP and then you following as soon as you can. Would make him a bit more at ease and you could handle the things here while he is with his family.

Sorry to hear about all this.

Thank you. Yes, it's looking like he's going to have to make that long flight alone, but it can't be helped. Hopefully I'll have my passport by Thursday.

Appreciate your kind words.
