Default family based immigration

I want to relocate to the usa next year and have a sister in florida who is willing to file my petition but says that it is a long process is there anyone who has successfully immigrated through this category and approx how long did it take?

Also would it be okay for be to go there and for her to do it whilst I am in the USA

IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME WITH THIS i WOULD BE EXTREMELEY GRATEFUL

okay it it takes a while so if i am actually in the states would it be easier or better not neccessarily quicker would be allowed to stay while I wait for immigrant visa number?

Would I be better off marrying my american boyfriend ha ha?

For starters, I would suggest reading the US Citizenship & Immigration Services website. It's a US gov. website. Start by reading this set of pages-
http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/residency/family.htm

There's a poster on here that recently got approved this way... I think her timeline was 13 or 14 years.

Yes.

If he is a US Citizen then you he could sponsor you much quicker probably around 6-9 months if you are both legally resident in the UK.

Duncan

But it would be easier if the boyfriend is resident in the US with a job paying at least 125% of the federally-defined poverty level for the family size (two adults, no kids, currently about $18K, I think), as you wouldn't have to worry about getting a job offer, or family sponsors, to demonstrate that you can support yourselves.

BTW When I emigrated, with my USC wife, from the UK, processing my application only took about five months.
