Anyone know why foreigners are refered to by the immigration authorities as 'Aliens?' It makes it sound like creatures from outer space or something! Not a very nice term really!

Even the IRS refers to us as aliens, but they seem happy enough to take our money.

I use this as a joke often, especially when discussions get heated in work (usually political). I get asked what I think- I reply with something like "I'm not allowed an opinion, I'm an alien"- usually starts a laugh.

Well at least I'm a permanent resident Alien now- was a non-resident alien for years LOL
