Default Extended Stay Hotels

Any recommendations on extended stay hotels?

I have been advised about extended stay america but that sounds a bit expensive. There are a couple cheaper alternatives that I found like InTown Suites and Value Place but I don't have any prior experience of them and they sound a bit dodgy. I am concerned about quality and security of these places.

Any opinions?

DH used Extended Stay America for about 3 months when he started new job and before we sold the house and getting new one. I stayed there a couple of times with him and it was fine and always clean. I suppose it depends on which part of the country you will be moving to the selection of places. His company picked up the tab though, which helped a lot.

Where abouts are you looking at? There might be local alternatives.

Don't know about extended stay, but when there was a Value Place slated to be built near my sister in law, the residents got an action committee together to try to block it - apparently they have a reputation for turning into halfway houses for released cons....don't know how true it is, but the place has been built now, and SiL hasn't been murdered in her bed yet.

I will be in Chicago. Extended stay America seems to have a good presence around Chicago suburbs but none of their hotel is close to a station which makes commuting to downtown Chicago a nightmare.

And yes, the security of these cheaper Inns is not satisfactory.

Have you checked out TripAdvisor? Pretty much all the hotels in my area are extended stay (military town) and varying in quality. We stayed in a shabby Extended Stay a few years ago but it has now been refurbished and is very well rated.

Plus TripAdvisor reviews always cheer me up

Yes I have checked the hotels at the time of trip. They provide the facilities according to the charges. The more they will will provide facilities, more they will charge.

I used Airbnb to book a stay in Baltimore in the summer, that worked out ok.

....and in Chicago specifically, I'm staying here for three weeks when I first arrive:

..and I'm reliably informed it's nice (hope it is, anyway).

Your company's managers may have a place where they like to put long-term visitors (it isn't always a single hotel room, it could be a furnished flat). Ask some managers who require their teams to travel a lot.

Those places look nice. They seem to just have a daily rate, no discount (unless I missed it) for complete weeks. I thought extended stay places usually gave a long stay discount ...

I think they do but you need to contact them directly.....my new boss has booked it for me. You can also lease the units as furnished apartments, so I'm guessing they can accommodate most requests.

We're in a furnished apartment in Evanston for home leave - got it through VIPcorporatehousing.com
Parking spot in the garage included in the price and right next to Purple Line Main station.
Edit to add - great gym in this apartment building.

My lease says $127 per night so less than federal per diem rate for lodging. Chicago area at $128 December through February.
