Exit question.

Exit question.
I hold a British passport and recently entered the USA from Canada with my (now ex) employer for business. All was fine entering and we re-entered approximately an hour later. This morning I look in my passport and note that that green re-entry card was still present and had not been taken by border control.
I am a bit worried now because it says that if the card is not surrendered on re-entry it may cause me to have problems entering again in the future. What should I do

Am I best to include a covering letter or just send it back unaccompanied?

No one likes a smart arse
As I was already a poster in the Canadian ex pat forum and found it very useful I thought I would ask the posters in here and hoped they would be as helpful.
Thanks to those who were polite and helpful. It was much appreciated.
