I almost died when I saw the exchange rate from dollars to pounds...

I saw a thread on pounds to dollars and thought I would see if anyone on the US side knew about getting a good rate from $ to GBP.

Anyone?????? :)

You might try searching the US forum - there was a lengthy thread on there, started by Waxwabbit, I think. Lots of advice on how to send money back to the UK from US, at cheapest rates.

just returned from london. its basically 2 to 1. everything costs twice as much in the UK. ouch! strong pound will hurt the british economy a lot. my guess is that this will be the orst summer in terms of tourists to london. on the other hand i dont mind a strong pound as i receive rental income from the UK. its a win win situation for me.

Looking at xe.com and not sure if it is a reliable way to get money to UK...

Choices right now...... for 5 figure sum.

Withdraw from US bank.... take to UK and change there....

Go to UK and pay a BofA check into UK barclays account.

Send money via bank of america US, to barclays account UK.

Use xe.com or other........

Basically having never done this before.. Not sure what would be the best way.......

And of course I want the best rate of exchange and with minimal fees occurred... LOL

I have the same problem. I also want the best rate, minimal fees, and quick turnaround. I also want a world peace... Sure, that's going to happen.:D

Try www.hifx.com - they do money exchange from most currencies I think and you can lock in a rate.

I started a thread on this subject a couple of months ago on here.

The exchange rate is most worrying. What i would do and what I am planning to do with my money is open a UK based $ account at somewhere like HSBC or Citibank. You can move your money over without converting it and then wait for a better rate if you don't need it straight away.

BTW have you heard anything from the INS yet as to you status?

I looked into HSBC and citibank... the thing is we dont' want to open another account and they charge a monthly fee.... Just want to send the money over to our account in the UK ( we kept it when we moved to USA)
I will have a look at hifx.com and see what thats like. xe.com seemed pretty good with a small fee for the transfer.

We were supposed to get some sort of response yesterday... The immigration lawyer says she hasn't heard anything as yet and has some more calls to make. She will let us know when she hears.......

Basically I am now a bag of nerves, want to go sit in the corner and suck my thumb...... I also want to march up the dam INS office and make them listen as I tell them how this is ruining our lives, destroying our marriage and how 4 children who class themselves as American are going to have thier lives totally ripped apart etc etc........ :mad:

It's looking pretty good work wise at least. I have a couple of companys interested in me. I'll PM you and fill you in. :)

Right now I'm still trying to tie up loose ends here. I know I will miss the States but I do have the option to move back here as I did take citizenship and my children are dual. It is so hard knowing where you should be because there is good and bad everywhere but when you have children you cannot only think of yourself anymore. I know my oldest who will be 6 this year speaks with an American accent. I know if I continue to stay here in the States she will become more indoctrinated into the American system here and will not want to leave plus the school systems are very different.

If I were you I would contact the INS directly. i know you have an INS lawyer but i would personally pick up the phone and call the INS direct. This is your life and future you are dealing with and you need to get answers quickly and establish where you stand.
Whenever I had a INS problem I would call my local INS office directly and find out what was going on.

Let us know what you find out won't you.

Sounds like everything your end is going well, wonderful. Having citizenship makes a big difference if you want to come back...

We have been in touch with INS more than once and have been told that we have to wait for the appeal decision. One INS specialist did say we could stay legally and hubby can continue working until we get a response but the immigration lawyer didn't believe that was so, and said she will have to look into it . Hubby forgot to get the guys name so there was no link back to him.... hey ho.

If this had never happened...... The plan was... we get green card I work as LVN and then get RN degree then BA. I would have like to have gone much further in nursing here... The kids are basically american now.... Eldest wants to do sound and engineering and was in the running for a schollarship as he has volunteered for 2 yrs in that field and already proved himself. (And he's only 13!)
Hubby has done extreemly well in his work and was hoping for a directorship later on......
We planned to buy a house and live out our lives here.....

Another lesson to lower expectations and enjoy the gifts of life you do get... Unfortunately thats pretty dam hard to do right now.... LOL

We were told we would hear something from INS on 15th well thats 2 days ago so hopefully we will get something tomorrow... I am continueing to pray it is positive...... For all our sakes.
