Every one posts the negs, what the up's...

Many of the post's here focus on the difficulties and complications to the 'new life'.

But what are the big up's, you know, the things that make you grin unstoppably as you drive along. There must be some.........

coming from living in suburbia in the UK - one of the attractions of OHIO for me is the large amount of space. Everything is spread out and there are very few traffic jams. I drive 5 times as far to go to the local supermarket but it feels like a shorter journey than it did in England as its straight easy roads that are not full. Its easy to park too. I guess if I lived in a city here it would be very different here tho so maybe its about being able to live in a more 'rural' feeling area (but we are still not in the country) but husband still having easy access to his well paid interesting job. In our new home he will be able to drive home in 15 mins with a nice easy stress free drive. In the UK he had at least an hour on his motorbike though difficult and slow traffic, or the sardine adventure of the train system. We can eat as a family together every night now and have more quality time together etc.

I would also say I have been very impressed by how friendly the folk are here. Much more so than in London. Neighbours come and talk to you, people in shops chat, Shop assistants make me feel like they will help with anything and not be grumpy etc.

I was going to say space, but recently, down here at least, they've built all the houses 2 feet from each other which gives a claustrophobic feeling.

The price of gas and decent sized cars.

I smile when I hear people moan about it and smile driving my big Jeep SUV which costs less to run than a Rover 200 did in the UK. I smile because for the first time ever I can afford to run a car with a lot of room and my back injury hasn't played up since I got it.

I think, if you earn a good wage, it's a pretty nice place to live. Sucks to be poor, or the lower end of the middle class, here though.

We have a better standard of living here on one income than we had on two in the UK - and we live in one of the most expensive parts of the country!

For us this is a big deal as when we have kids I want my wife to be able to stay at home and not work for several years if she chooses.
