Ernesto...
Just been to get gas, people are already stockpiling and there is a big run on gas containers at Walmart. This being my first hurricane season I'm starting to worry.

It seems in the news people stock up for every storm etc even when it doesn't hit. So probably nothing to worry about.
Saying that stocking up a bit for water, gas and tinned food seems like a general good idea.
I am sure there is a govt website for florida to tell you what to do.
Ours here is a 3 day program, basically told to have everything to survive (water, gas, candles etc) for 3 days. Also to have an emergency kit (first aid, clothes, food and water) all together to grab in case of an emergency (ours is an earthquake). I think it is a good idea to do this so you can then get on with your life knowing if an emergency does come you've done the best you can.
just found this site (bound to be others)

We always stock up on tins before the season starts and keep a good stock of water and essentials. You'll find that this always happens and there will be sweet FA in the shops for weeks. Can't beat a good panic, just buy a few tins extra each week you'll be prepared.

I have been trying to avoid using my paid time off so I can go to UK next year, if I have to evacuate that will screw that plan up. I know the TV hypes this stuff up but it does look like its heading this way, maybe in a year or two I will be more blase about it.

I'm very annoyed by this Ernesto thing
We are (big group) going to Floribama for a holiday next week (getting there Friday) and this potential hurricane seems to be hell-bent on messing things up
I really hope it heads for new orleans to finish the job rather than gulf shores AL

Having never experienced a hurricane I expected it to come whirling out of nowhere and piss rain all over us and blow thru like a tornado
If you don't have to evacuate its just like a rainy windy storm for about an hour or two and then after that the sun usually pops out
Of course if its a big one we get out of dodge..............but the wee ones are usually a good excuse to stay inside and start drinking & eating cause there is bugger all else to do! We once ate all the snacks and stuff from our hurricane kit in one afternoon after too many cocktails

I have stockpiled up on:
9mm amunition, 2 extra belts of M60 ammo, 3 hand grenades, night vision, have set several bouncing betty's in the front lawn, sent change of address to the local post office and bought an extra pair of socks.
Missed anything?
