English Accents
Has anyone found that their accent help them get a job?
A friend of mine said her scottish accent got her a job as a receptionist, but that was in the 70's

My accent gets me a lot of attention and so on, but unfortunately, no job as of yet!
Half the time when applying for jobs, it's nigh on impossible to even talk to a person, you're just a faceless resume and cover letter.

Despite being the only Brit in a department of two hundred I'm sure that my accent didn't get me the job.

Not really, like Pulaski says it makes you stand out but unless your otherwise impressive its not the clincher. You have to get into the interview in the first place and that is the most difficult thing at the moment.
Don't be dazzled by the amount of job advertised as this does not reflect jobs available. They advertise jobs that they are filling from within and companies also advertise jobs that are not really there so that investers will thing that the company is still growing and be happy.
In most areas (especially IT and High Tech) there are over 250 applicants for each job because there are so many out of work techies (good time to get that computer science degree).
The good news is that this can't last forever and when the playing field is even again your accent may be the edge you need.

Interview Answers
FYI Answers not to give in the interview
The achievement I am most proud of is where I worked last - I took a whiz in the coffee jug every day for 3 years and no-one noticed
And I thought that there couldn't be a HR department more incompetent than the last place I worked.
I really don't think I could work for a company that hires ugly women
No you can't get a reference from my last boss, the police haven't found his body yet
Can you only download porn on your lunch break or any time during the day
I only drink to be social, and of course for breakfast
In management there is no such thing as a bad decision, you just need to have someone to blame
I believe the best way to reach targets is through physical violence
I found it harder to command respect when I was a woman
What do I have that the other candidates for the post don't? Well a policeman’s head in the freezer is my guess
I was Martha Stewarts broker
Give me the job and I'll have sex with you
Your mother sucks cocks in hell
Can we take the tour later, I have an erection at the moment

Well at least the accent helps you to get laid, even if it doesn't help you get a job!

On the accent front, I trade on it as a soccer coach - and afterwards in the bars.

Actually, I found out about a month into my first job here that my accent helped to clinch it for me. Of course, I'm sure the fact that my boss (at that time) happened to be from Tunbridge Wells had nothing whatsoever to do with it.
