England represented by.....
Just been to a girl scouts 'nibblefest'. Each brownie and scout group had to represent a country and offer a food from that country for everyone to 'nibble'.
Italy had bruscetta
Sri Lanka had spicy potato
Japan had riceballs with soy sauce
Scotland has shortbread
Greece had baklava
Israel had hummous
France had crepes with strawberries
Thailand had chicken satay
Brazil had pink rice with red beans
can't remember the others but they were all delicious..
England had........cheese and pineapple on sticks the best thing was, we were assured by the girls on the stand that "the Queen eats these you know"....
Do we really not have anything else to offer...?

You can just thank your lucky stars that they didn't show up with a tray full of English muffins. English muffins were of course invented in the USA. :scared:

Why didn't I think of cheese & pineapple on a stick (stuck in a potato wrapped in foil) for International Day at my daughter's elementary school?
I made scones with jam and fresh cream (which the children were not encouraged to eat as the teachers wanted them). I was going to do Shepherd's Pie but didn't think the kids would eat it. I just couldn't think of any other traditional english dish that would be appealing to 8 year olds.
When I got there the food was amazing and put my effort to shame. However there was a plate of crustless jam butties. The child who brought them in explained to us that her great grandmother was english and that all english people including the Queen have 'tea sandwiches' every afternoon.
