Default Endorsements on UK Driving License

Hi,

I have 6 endorsement points (all for speeding) on a UK driving license.

I'm currently waiting for greencard to emigrate. On arrival I will immediately take a local/State driving test so I can get a USA driving license. I will then purchase a car & arrange insurance.

BUT... the insurance company will ask if I have any penalties on my license. Since I will have a 'new' US license, do I need to disclose the points on my UK license to the insurance company?

Thanks,

b.

I doubt that.
What generally seems to happen here is that your UK driving record (good or bad) counts for absolutely zip and you will be treated as if you are applying for your first license/insurance ever.

Luckily for me, in Ohio, they did take my irish drivers licence to be valid experience . When searching around insurance companies I just said every time 'well the last insurance company I got an offer from took my irish drivers licence as valid experience'....worked every time. Each time they asked had I any penelties on my irish drivers licence and I said no (happens to be true), however I would think it very unlikely an insurance company here would catch you out for penelties on EU drivers licence.

I still need to do my US driving and written tests however, which happens to be today !.

You will more than likely not be able to take your test until you acquire a Social Security number. Your UK license should tide you over for the first 30 days, if you are driving under someone elses (intended spouse's????) insurance.

Only answer questions that are asked. Do not volunteer any information, whatsoever. They will ask you at the DMV Office if you have any other licences. If you show them your UK licence, it may be taken away from you. If this happens, simply ask the DVLA (In Swansea) for a duplicate UK licence, stating that you have misplaced your old one This will act as a "back-up" just in case things don't work out for you over here.

Good Luck!

Jim.

Deny everything - they will never know!!! Seriously though our insurance took into account NCB from UK (although they shouldnt have) but they cant check your points. Plus if you are ever asked to show it just give them the photo part - they dont know the existence of the paper part!!!
