Employee discount pricing?
 

Anybody bought a new motor with this. We were quoted $8000 off an Explorer yesterday.

Also, does anybody know if Nissan have any deals running right now. I cannot seem to find any cash rebate offers for them.

Big discounts on the Explorer.. thay had to get buyers somehow ...

A car dealer can have a sale any time he wants, He can't force the manufacturer to cough up, but you need all your info on comparable models, financing rates from your bank etc. and go in on a busy day The September holiday is best. If you go in when they are busy, they can't afford to spend a lot of time arguing, money is walking out the door. If you go on a Tuesday night, they have nothing better to do so they will haggle all night. But you need to get their invoice price and holdback amount and show them that you have that info.

Yes.......just did this last week at Ford. I had a Ford Windstar that I loved but it has just passed on. I absolutely *hate* the local Ford dealer (they are total scum) but as usual, didn't have time to shop around at other area dealers. :(

I think we got about $4000 off for the employee discount deal on a new Ford Freestyle which is a van-station wagon thing.

At the last minute, they told us that they had to charge us salestax on the amount of the discount. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "that's total bullshit---take if off and if it shows up somewhere else in the deal I don't sign AND I'm calling Ford to report you for unscrupulous practices."

Whatever. :rolleyes:

Anyway, they don't like me there, but I did get a really nice car out of it and they gave me quite a bit for the trade-in, considering it was needing some serious repairs. :)

(at one point the manager came out to talk to us about budgeting :rolleyes: , saying, "if you just budget 20 more dollars a week in a little jar at home we could get you this car....." to which I said, "Don't talk to me about budgeting....it will not be a good thing for you." :D)

The big three are doing employee pricing cos they need to keep the plants rolling, and they seem to keep extending. What this has done has brought the busy part of the year (sept/oct) forward. There are some great offers but it will affect used values and the residual value of what you buy. I think they are creating trouble for themselves further down the line. The non domestic manufacturers are less likely to do such big rebates cos frankly they don't need to.

The GM employee discount means: You're getting a discount because they are laying off employees.

Wow, Nissan are not exactly pushing out the boat are they :rolleyes:

The ford deal was sticker price of $32,000 with the cash rebate and employee pricing taking it down to $24,000. I'm now begining to wish I hadn't been upgraded to a Jeep Liberty last week when I used a rental, because my wife loved them before actually driving one and I hated them, but now it's the other way around and we could get a fully loaded 4x4 for around $20,000 with the jeep discounts and rebates. :(

Nissan don't need to - they aren't in trouble like Ford! I looked at an Eddie Bauer Expedition for my matewith 10k off the sticker - lot of car for the money but didn't rate the build quality so we got a Toyota instead (for more money but it will be worth it when it comes to resale)

That is just the regular rebates and doesn't seem to include the employee discounts of the moment.

The Japanese car manufacturers are keeping their prices high at the moment. They are worried that if they take too much market share and GM actually goes bust then Congress will start slapping huge tariffs on foreign cars.

Something about not killing the goose that lays golden eggs?

I hae bought Fords at 'employee' prices for years. I think everyone in Essex has access. Sometimes they were very good deals, sometimes not a lot in it.

Do not get hung up on MSRP, any reference to market value is co-incidental. US manufacturers seem to like high list prices and big discounts. Discounts can still be had on employee pricing. Fatbrit mentioned a good site, cars.com another. Use these to set your max price.

The internet is your power on car buying, unless you like going head to head with the white shirts, and then you need to use your numbers.

Certainly last year on Mazda you could get a better price without the S plan pricing.
