emigrating to USA? you must read this book
this is a wake up call to all those who are wanting to emigrate to the USA.
yes, we know it is the biggest economy in the world, the most powerful, etc etc, but how did it become so and how does it stay at the top, hmm?
well, read this book by barbara ehrenreich called Nickel and Dime (ps this is not a plug for this author!!) and you will find out. believe me, its an eye opener, eg people being taken advantage of by payment of low, sometimes below subsistence levels, not being able to take time off even for an interview for fear of being fired, living in motels, not being able to afford the rents, not being able to afford medical insurance, sometimes not even being able to afford a decent meal (apart from maybe a bag of doritos...), carrying on working even though seriously injured on the job, etc.
if that is typically america, and many people have confirmed that, then they can keep the american dream.
what kind of a place is that which cannot be bothered to take care of its less unfortunates, etc? and yet call itself a superpower?
