Easter holidays?
I noticed a few days ago that I plan to arrive immediately before the Easter weekend. Is this a bad idea? For example, I know not to travel around Thanksgiving. Is stuff likely to be closed for a long weekend?

Re: Easter holidays?
Easter is more or less a non-event here .. except as a religious holiday for religious people. Certainly no shops closed for the holiday, as far as I know. Most workers work normal days/hours over Easter...

I suppose it depends on where you are going. I would have put the same reply as above when we arrived in Austin 12 yrs ago. The kids didn't even get Easter holidays as Spring break had already happened, just before we arrived and all the shops were open.
Now, most of the stores are closed for Easter Sunday, including supermarkets and schools get good Friday off. Also the number of churches have tripled, at least, in that time period. The only other day all the stores are closed, is Christmas day.
Of course, Walmart and Walgreens will be still open, it would really be a national emergency for those stores to be closed.

A someone has said, it delends where you're headed. Some States/school districts roll easter weekend into their Spring break some don't.

No, stuff will not be closed for the long weekend. It's not at all like Thanksgiving, though in some parts they are a few more placed closed on Sunday than normal. It's really become less and less of a holiday in the US over the last 20-30 years.

It's not even a school holiday for our kids. We have spring break for the last two weeks in March then go right through till summer and end the school year.
The only thing you do see for Easter is over the top decorations, little girls dresses and baskets of sweets that will make you sick as a dog.

Thanks everybody! Last thing I wanted was to arrive and then have to twiddle my thumbs for a long weekend.

Does depend where you're heading, some places close up, others not so much.
Current town found that does a fair bit, lot of Brazilians...but previous town you'd hardly notice.
Except the liquor stores....MA has weird booze laws for holiday events and public holidays

Forgot to mention, sorry - north/east LA area. Not really out in the boonies. School not an issue, for a year or so anyway.
As long as I have TV and beer I'm sure I'd survive anyway! Actually, I'll be with relos for the first week or three anyway so I'd have company too.

Re: Easter holidays?
The local TV here will say stuff about 'looking forward to the Holiday Weekend' at Easter.
What holiday? It is just a normal 2 day weekend for most people.
Perhaps the regular church goers don't go on Easter Sunday because it is full of part-timers. This means they can go out on the bevvy on the Sat night so it appears that it is a holiday weekend to them?
