Easter Eggs!

I can't believe I haven't seen any normal Easter Eggs in the shops so far...any body had any sightings Austin way?

What is a "normal" Easter Egg?

A BIG one Pulaski! Not the tiddly little pebbles I've been seeing around here.

You know the ones that don't actually have that much chocolate, lots of wrapping around them and extra choccies round the side....

I don't think I have EVER seen one since I moved to the USA. Except for the odd imported one at "British" shops that is.

As for easter stuff in general, well, that's been on sale since Christmas.

Re: Easter Eggs!

I have found this weird as well, over here in the land of choice and plenty there are no easter eggs! or hardly any, I saw a cadburys egg at Target, one that at home in Tesco would be in a 3 for a £1 offer, and it was $5.49!

Lots of tiny little eggs and peanut butter eggs! but my kids will be disappointed as I am with the lack of choice over here in this department.

Re: Easter Eggs!

I found a Thornton's white chocolate egg in TJ Maxx a couple of weeks ago. It is this years use by date, so not an old one. I'm not sure if "World Market" will do larger chocolate eggs, but may be worth a try.

This was our haul from last year, I get them from an Irish store that imports them from the UK. The guy usually does me a deal and I always haggle with him for a better price :D

No Eggs in mugs I'm afraid, the kids would complain anyway as they just want the CHOCOLATE!

I did see the small eggs in bunny egg cups a few years ago though.

Nostalgic now about some of the things out of easter egg packs. My son is 21 and recently asked me where his 'Postman Pat' egg cup had got to  My husband still uses a 'Little Britain' mug at work.

Easter 101

You buy a straw basket with a handle. You put green plastic grass in the bottom. You buy Easter candy - peanut butter eggs, chocolate stuff, malted eggs, plus one big chocolate rabbit in a box. You also buy several little plastic Easter toys, like chickens laying little choc eggs, funny little rabbit stuff, squeaky things, etc. Or an Easter cup or something. You place all stuff in basket on green plastic grass. They sell colored see-through paper (pink, purple, yellow, etc). You wrap the whole basket with that paper. You leave the basket out the night before Easter Sunday - and the Easter bunny brought it. Obviously that is for little kids - sort of like Santa. As kids get older of course you just play it by ear, and buy chocolate and stuff.

If you can't be bothered, you can buy the baskets already made up in the stores, but of course they aren't as good as home made baskets.

The one big egg thing is a UK tradition. :)

I miss going to the supermarket the day after easter and buying loads of them at half price when they were close to being reasonably priced!

(Perhaps that's why I just spent $240 on meds for HBP, cholesterol and diabetes!!)

My husband picked up a couple from Walmart the other day. In previous years I've had to ask people to send them over or pay an arm and a leg for them in specialist shops.

99p for the cadburys button eggs, always a bargain! Asda used to have them to entice you into the store and inevitably I would always buy more stuff :sneaky:

Re: Easter Eggs!

Fairway Market in NYC had a decent selection of UK imported eggs. Cadbury's mini eggs were $2 for a bag which actually wasn't bad.

I like to hold out until after Easter and then plunder their selection when they are below $5 for a Buttons egg!

Made in the USA = Hershey chocolate

I would love to order eggs for the wife and kids from the UK but we going to be in the 90s next week, it would likely arrive resembling a cow pat.
