Not Motown but I like the little town where we live...very pretty. The countryside is very English in places...Bernardsville/Far Hills etc. Like you say it's very safe but very expensive. My husband doesn't work in the city so this area suits us nicely.

But seriously, that is why I was asking where the OP lives now. Someone who was addicted to the galleries/nightlife/urban aspects of, say, London probably wouldn't want to move to McMansion in suburban NJ. But on the other hand, someone who preferred the space/green/megamultimarkets of e.g. Surrey likely wouldn't want to end up living in a studio in Murray Hill.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

I currently live in Bermuda, originally from outside Glasgow - have lived in both larger cities and smaller villages, so quite adaptable in that respect.

All your info is greatly appreciated.

I live in Manhattan but have many friends from New Jersey. There is a lovely part of the Jersey Shore, sand dunes and beach. I hear there are bad parts of shore too, I will ask friends. I have visited friends in places like Manalopan, village type living, quite English in places. I will mail friends tomorrow.

I wouldn't bother, no chance for a visa, so it'd be a waste of time

H1B is long finished, they wouldn't be able to apply till next April, for an Oct start as it's not a uni position...and what company is going to hold a position open for more than a year.

Shame. Although Bermuda isn't bad I have been there three times and loved it.

A good friend of mine went there for three years. Her husband was offered a very good position there. They are from London. They left after two years, she was bored to death. Also they would not allow her to work so she did volunteer work teaching people to read at the prison (honest! It was pink and had lush greenery!) and volunteering all over the place.

Maybe my three visits are the best way after all
