I'm still waiting. In 2000 I was a geology student at Berkeley, with my classes directly on top of the Hayward fault. Not even one little shake the whole time I was there.
10 years later and I'm still waiting. I was looking forward to seeing skyscrapers toppling and bridges falling into the sea. Very disappointing.

I do believe that Ms. King was residing in New York City when she wrote that one.
As an aside, I do remember clearly waking up at 4:31 a.m. on January 17, 1994. That was the longest 37 seconds in my life. I remember reading that the Good Friday temblor in 1964 went on for nearly nine minutes.
A friend is from Valpariso and they know what to do when the earth shakes -- run uphill as fast as you can -- the Pacific Ocean will not be so pacific.
As an aside, I do remember clearly waking up at 4:31 a.m. on January 17, 1994. That was the longest 37 seconds in my life. I remember reading that the Good Friday temblor in 1964 went on for nearly nine minutes.
