E2 visa and mortgage

Does anyone know how to get a home loan if we are have a E2 visa? Big banks are rejecting us because we are self employed. Do any small banks provide mortgages to E2 visa owners?

It's probably because you don't have credit history rather than the visa...

read the wiki on credit history...and welcome to BE :)

Is it really a good idea to buy a house in the U.S. when you have a visa that doesn't allow you to remain long term?

Thats not quite true ...There is no limit on renewal of that visa

For anybody to get a mortgage at the moment is difficult
you probably need to get a credit rating first ..try again in a year ..

I got rejected by about 50 lenders but eventually got approved with no credit history by Wachovia. My "status" is as a foreign national so the interest rate is slightly higher than other good deals around but my broker assures me that once I have been in the system for 18 months or so then I stand a better chance of shopping around and refinancing to a better deal.

Good luck. It helps if you have a good broker and realtor who will work together and bend over backwards to find the deal that will work for you.
