Etc etc etc. Come on...its breeding a bunch of uptight overworked overstressed kids.

Hey even our American friends think the school system sucks here.

Currently our daughter is in an A grade school in the county that ranks the highest in the state. And its shite. So short of moving state (not an option right now) we can only end up with worse schools by moving.
Schools..don't get me going......the teacher can't teach...........then you have to paid for your kids to catch up.........my son had a year of science last year......all his teacher would say is look to your notes made in Middle school........my son says.....I never did the science year in middle school I was in the UK...........teacher..go get the notes from someone else.......son..no-one else has the notes they never knew to keep them...teacher...well none of you will pass then.........
My son did a course on his own in a few weeks and passed with flying colours.....I just wonder what the teacher did all year....because it was not teach...........

E2 is not a waste of time for us. We could do green card, but why bother. We get everything we want the way it is. We come and go as we please, still entitled to SS benefits if they exist upon retirement. If hubby is forced into going permie, at that time his employer will pay for the green card.

Piss poor medical - too me that is struggling to be able to get an appt. with some underpaid, overworked GP. Then needing specialist care and having to wait forever to even get into see a specialist. Time I needed it, took 4 months to get an appt. which was made at a time I would be out of the country. Was told stiff shit, get to the back of the line and wait for your number to come up again.
I have to agree with you on some points...but the fear of losing everything when you become sick in the USA....overshadows the joy at getting an appointment the same day over here........

OK. I'll say it again. You needed a better accountant.
IR35 was a mugs game. The govt got those that were dumb enough (or had bad enough advice) to own up to it. There were/are many ways to get around IR35. Unfortunately theres also plenty of crappy and lazy accountants who told their clients to pay up regardless simply for a quiet life.

Well I dont know where you lived but I think the most I ever had to wait was maybe 2 or 3 days for a GP appointment and mostly next day...and I lived in at least 5 places in the UK. We had our GP turn up at our door in the middle of the night on more than one occaision for our kids when they were small. Try that trick here no matter...how much cash you wave around it won't happen.

Also, as rob has said, you DO pay NI equivalent here and its just as much as in the UK...except you'll get precisely sod all for it.

But anyway...each to there own. I know where I feel happier regarding medical care. Believe me I wouldnt retire here for that reason alone.

no, it's not bad, or good, just different. But for some reason people think it's the easy life and the streets are paved with gold.

Everyone thinks the quality of life and standard of living will increase in the USA, I have found it not to be the case.

Exactly. Actually, we are considerably worse off here, over once you add up all the figures but as there were no suitable jobs left in Scotland and the choice was here or Asia, guess where we ended up. Both of us would much prefer to be back in Scotland but at least he has a job.

I did think of getting my winter wear ready soon. Time to put the above knee level shorts away and break out the below knee level ones soon I think. It was a veritably chilly 76f here last night.
