You will have to get a NJ license within 60 days...but don't worry it's only a multiple question test. Just familiarise yourself with the NJ driving code and you'll be OK.

Unless your visa is valid for less than 12 months you should get it as soon as possible (which isn't always within the time they allow). If your visa is valid for less than 12 months it isn't always required and that might be where your confusion comes in. If you're not planning on owning a car and you're renting you could probably get around it too.

Only if you're a tourist, otherwise it looks like it's 60 days.
