Yes...we used them in winter on top of the year round candlewick bedspread.

Oh my God, yes. Bottom sheet, you, top sheet, blanket, eiderdown, bed cover.

It took half a bloody hour to make the bed.

I still have my 13.5 and 4.5 tog duvets from John Lewis. Won't ever use anything else. I've bought covers over here and they fit just fine.

This thread is very pertinent to me as I've recently acquired a king size bed and need a duvet. I've been researching and have gone off down.. not sure how the down is collected and not sure I want to know. I'm going for a wool duvet and duvet cover! Organic, ethical and environmentally friendly so I've read. Ohhh I hope it's going to be warm. They are a bit expensive!

No, no no, eiderdown on top of the candlewick! Ours were a fetching slate blue-grey in a weird satin fabric that did slide about a bit, but they were warm. Does anyone else remember those candy stripe flanelette sheets? Is bedding more robust now, as I remember wearing holes in my sheets as a kid. Or maybe because we weren't well off they were used much longer than we do these days.

I do like flanelette though - a few years ago I tracked down flanelette duvet covers and pillow cases, now they are COSY!

Yup...the eiderdown always went on top.

We also had the candy striped flanelette sheets in winter.

Now that brought back some memories. In Australian winters it was top and bottom flanelette sheets (with grey and pink stripes!), then grey scratchy wool blankets, and on top a cotton candlewick bedspread.

Gosh yes, I remember the flannelette sheets getting holey, my mother cut them down the centre and sewed the outside edges together to make a 'new' sheet, times were 'ard!

I think we had yellow flannelette sheets as a kid, and white ones to change with.

Does anyone remember those awful brushed nylon sheets? They were cold, gave you an electric shock when you touched the things and if you had a nail that was a bit rough, it always used to catch on the sheets.

No such thing as being too hot. Even in Summer in Queensland, Aus I have the lighter half of my duvet on the bed.

And if your head came off the pillow in the night you'd wake up with your hair standing on end.
