If you work in NYC, there are 3 types, of income tax, City, State & Federal + other SS deductions etc.
$50k, in NYC is pretty low. Also make sure you are getting good healthcare benefits on TOP of your salary.
Add to that:
Who is paying for finding you an apartment?
UK or USA vacation time?
Who pays, for airfares, on returning to UK?

Many more questions to ask.

We had a recent thread on affordability and NYC. Basically I worked it out that if you are going to be making $45,000 US you'll end up living worse off than a college student in New York (who is sharing a room to save on expenses)
