I did fail my driving test (Alberta, Canada) due to an obscure matter of who had right of way at a weird intersection! To this day I don't know how to deal with an intersection of its type; fortunately I haven't see one again and second time around was tested on a different route.

I realize this is probably me being stupid but I cannot find anything that will explain who has priority at cross roads with stop signs at all roads. I have downloaded the entire Delaware road user’s manual but all it will tell me is who "doesn't" have priority. My state driving test is coming up and I am pretty terrified - took me 4 goes to pass in the UK so any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!
Yes, this was an issue that troubled me just before doing the driving test here: "What if 4 cars separately arrive at the same time at a 4 way stop?" I never got a clear answer from anyone. So I assumed that there would be a "4 way pile up"! I still passed! (You can, in VA, get the odd question wrong, I forget the breakdown, but whatever you do, don't have a breakdown over your upcoming driving test ... the worst that can happen is that you get prompted to answer the question: "What if 4 cars separate arrive at the same exact time at a 4 way stop?" !!!!! ... and you should still pass ... well mostly should ... maybe ... not sure ... nope ... you fail!

I started my "legal" attempt at driving here (LA, Cali) about 2 weeks ago... read the handbook cover to cover the morning of the written test... it took 5mins and I got 100%.. I was actually aghast at the simplicity of the whole thing.

This morning I set out to take my Actual driving test... expecting something a lil more difficult... 2 hours of waiting... and 6mins of driving (around the block) and I'd passed....

Now I'm scared.... if they let 16yo's on the road after 6mins testing.... then no wonder the insurance here is SOOOO freaking high.

Now I'm about to drive home scared

In Colorado first to the front has right of way, if 2 arrive at the same time then Priorité à droite applies.

Reality is that it is more a game of chicken but nothing comparable to driving in London.

Test is a joke like others have said, I did do an Emergancy Stop, inadvertant, squirrel, and said something to the effect that hopefully that would count and we would not have to repeat it. Puzzled examiner, jst left and rights around the local estate.

One thing I would do is make sure you come to a FULL stop at Stop signs, seems to be the equivalent of UK staring in your rear mirror.

I was the only one taking my test who did not have their Mum there, and their Mum's were younger than me.

No wonder driving in NC is so scary!

Technically, at a four way stop junction "the car to the right has priority" when more than one arrives at the same time (so I have been advised by Mrs Turkey) though I am not sure how this works if two cars arrive opposite each other at the same time.

Otherwise NCP is right - first come first to go, ..... or is it the driver with the biggest SUV?

That would be the correct answer around these here parts

I loved taking my FL licence. Two mins around the local equivalent of the 'school cycle' track back home....

In the latter case there is only a conflict if one car is turning left and the other is going straight or turning right. In that case, the usual rule of the left-turning vehicle yielding to the other would apply.

But that assumes use of indicators...

Which are nigh on invisible when used anyway

Watch your mouth! Use of turn signals is illegal in New Mexico. Colorado residents!

Sounds like you had the same tester as me... LOL Went to Sherman way for my test... In my huge suburban!!! (After a ford escort in UK). Went out the center, across at the lights, left, left left, right, across at the lights and back in the test center... Oh and the lights turned red on me. I managed a quick stop with the exclamation of 'sh*t!' still passed though... LOL

You still driving that nice little sporty car? Get a surburban, you'll have no worries.. Oh and better with a huge towing package and front bull bars...

They actually took you out on a real road??? I'm impressed. You get to drive round a fake roadway in Florida. Mind you if I was an examiner I wouldn't take high school kids out on the road! A course of Driver's Ed in school and the answers to all the test questions used is the only preparation some of them have before taking their test... :scared:

Please tell me you're kidding! BTW, the reason I almost failed is that I did NOT take advantage of the less-well-known left-on-red! (Which is of course entirely optional, so the examiner must just have been in a foul mood that day.)

Shouldn't that be right on red?

Ah - you see the obscurity! In some states it is legal to make a left turn on red from the left lane of a one-way to the left lane of a one-way (as I found out that day). But like I said, nobody says you have to do it!
