Re: Driving license grief - Maven car share
An International Driving Permit is only a translation of your driver license, which makes it pointless for use in the USA if you have a US license. Some (most?) countries require you to have a translation of your license if it is not in the native language.

not that I might want to use their service now, the shambolic service is bettered by others, without crazy rules.
at the end of the day I have full clean US NYS driving license, that should be as good as any one else’s.
The UK full license I have cannot be renewed while I’m in the US and therefore I can’t renew the international license for it either, so US license + IDP is the best I can offer right now, as per most Americans I would imagine.

Maven is wholly owned and operated by GM (General Motors), so is "legit".
I've used it a few times, mostly without issue, and when I have had an issue, they've refunded and given credit.
FYI They have had no issues with my Michigan drivers license issued whilst on visa. (2 year license)
