I remember driving a friend's pick up track and I think the "hand break" was a pedal on the left? is that what you mean?

Uhh...why are you braking with your left foot?!? It's been quite a while since I drove a stick, but I thought I braked with my right, while my left foot hovered on/around the clutch?

To the original poster, every state has different driving rules. Start here for information: http://www.dds.ga.gov/

I know when my hubby joined my in Kentucky that he had to take the written test to get his 30 day permit. He then had to come back at the end of the 30day period to take the driving test to get his full license. Be aware that if a permit is a requirement for Georgia, then technically he can only drive if there is a licensed passenger in the vehicle with him (at least here in Kentucky that is the law).

Good luck and welcome to the US!

Even in an automatic, you're technically supposed to brake with your right foot. Your left foot just dangles over there being useless. The reason being - that way you can't accidentally press both the brake and accelerator at once.

In practice, I think may of us use either foot on the brake, depending upon habit and mood.

And - yes, all you Brits - this septic CAN drive a manual just fine

Those left foot brakers drive me nuts, brake lights constantly going on and off as your following them down the road.

Had to get a learner license in Indiana, followed by a test. Even though I've been driving all my life, made a couple of mistakes on the test too, (very embarassing). :curse:

(I was however allowed to drive on my Brit license for a year).

In Californian, you only have 10 days. Which means it's pretty much impossible for you not to break the rules/law if you're an immigrant cos you can't get an SSN that quickly!

The answer is in http://www.dds.ga.gov/index.aspx somewhere. Be warned: only the brightest and the best get to work for these people.

Here you go: http://www.dds.ga.gov/drivers/DLdata...47371440&ty=dl

Needs written exam and test.

Would budget at least 10 minutes to learn for the test (remember, if you've had 8 beers you should take a cab home!), and he should not drink more than 7 beers in the 2 hours before taking the practical part. Anything less than vehicular manslaughter in the practical part will guarantee a pass.

Weird! In my book, left foot's for the clutch, right foot (left edge) for brake and same foot (right edge) for accelerator. Am I doing it wrong?

Gotta amuse yourself somehow while driving through the Phoenix traffic. Why else would one drive a Subaru? Well apart from the excellent handling, reliability, etc.
