Driving License
 

I just wanted to ask when would I be able to apply for a driving license in
the USA?

My wife is a US citizen and I have just completed my biometrics for I-485
and I-765.

My I-485 receipt has an alien number but I wasn't sure if I have to wait for
anything before I can go ahead and apply for the license.

Just for info, I was staying in Florida from the UK for 4 months and
just went along to the DMV and got my state license straight away with
no need for the SSN but did do a test. I think the SSN thing varies
from state to state.

I'm in Georgia and I've just checked their site and they request SSN.
However, they're site says that there is a form I can get from INS to
complete if I do not have one. Guess I'll just hang on for now, I'm tired of
filling out forms :0)

Once you have your EAD, you can apply for an SSN at your local SS office.

As the other poster pointed out, some states allow you to apply for a DL
without an SSN. In that case, you have to go to the SS office for an
affidavit that states that you cannot obtain an SSN because you are not
allowed to work.

However, in your case, you *will* be allowed to work as soon as your I-765
is approved.
