i remember going for a us license. because i had an international license they gave me a "test" on the computer.. like showing me a stop sign and asking me what i would do. i promptly got 20/20 in about 30 second flat.. took it to the counter and asked if that was a practical joke or something.. then i realized the girl behind me had failed?
on my uk driving test when i was 17 i had some nazi who made me do reverse park in busy traffic as well as a 3 point turn in a tiny ass street that was more of an alley.. now that was test.

In England I failed my test because when I reversed around the corner I touched the kirb (touched not mounted) realised right away that I had made a mistake and asked for a second attempt, I was refused and failed because of it. Like you said in England a test means a test!
