Drivers License in US
Me again,
Can I use my Canadian driver's license in the US until it expires? Or do I need to get a California license once I'm there?
Thank you,
Tami

Re: Drivers License in US
Tami,
If you're in Calif on a visit (haven't taken up residence/job here) you can use your
Canadian license till it expires.
However, if you take up residence in thestate (buy/rent a home) or join a job, you
*have* to get a Calif license within 10 days.
The way this works is that you take the written test, and once you pass that you can
get a temporary license (usually valid for 2 months) simply by showing your Canadian
license at DMV. You can drive on roads using the temporary license. Then, sometime
during those two months, you take the road test, fail, then take it again, and fail
again, and finally pass!!
(Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest you'll fail; it's just that I've heard of so many
cases of failure at first attempt....)
BTW, I've heard that, on an average, male applicants for DL in Calif take the road
test 2.3 times before passing. For females the number is 1.6
