drivers license and ssn name

hi all,

appreciate if someone can help me on this
question #1 i noticed some of you got your ssn and drivers lic pretty
fast. i have slight problem here in california. when i first got in
with K1 visa DMV told me i needed to get ssn b4 i can sit for my exam.
when i finally did get it which is like more than a month later, they
told me that the I94 should have at least 60 days validity. which is
just impossible! otherwise, they said we need some letters or something
from USCIS to show that my adjustment is in process. i went to USCIS in
san jose yesterday and they told me they won't issue anything until my
application is completed (90days) and told me that DMV will not let out
of status fiance take any exam whatsoever. i notice some of you got your
drivers license... how do u guys do it?

question #2
change of name - in the adjustment of status they asked for your maiden
name or name in your passport. what happens if you change your name
after marriage? i have a totally diff name cos my maiden name which is
in chinese and my married name is in christian. currently i have my
ssn with chistian name on it. will there be a problem in the future?

hope someone can help me out.

cheers!

Re: drivers license and ssn name

Ussually an EAD will be good enough for the DMV. If you have that you
are ok. What the DMV wants to see is some govt doc that shows your
status here (although the EAD really does not).

On the adjustment of status application you should ahve been married so
you should list your new name as your current name and your original
name (as in your passport and birth cert) in the other names used box.
If you changed it after wards you may want to go to the office in person
(make an infopass appointment) and bring your marriage certificate.
They can pull your file and yuo may be able to modify while you are
there. A friend of mine had that done at a CIS office.
