Re: DRIVERS LICENSE
Take a look at your state's DMV website...the info will be there. You will most likely have to take a practical and written test. This varies from state to state...as does the length of time you can drive on your current licence.

Re: DRIVERS LICENSE
It is often 30 days from becoming a resident, but definitions of resident can vary between states.

Re: DRIVERS LICENSE
Make sure to use the 'official' state web site. There are a few websites which appear to be official but are not and often have incorrect information.
Official sites usually end in .gov

Re: DRIVERS LICENSE
Don't believe anyone who says you have 12 months - that is the federal law for visitors and once you meet your state's definition for being a "resident", which typically includes things like renting/buying a home or starting a job, you just have the x days to get a local license.
You will almost certainly have to take a road test, which will be an utter joke - likely less than ten minutes driving round a few side streets. Just make sure you stop at STOP signs and red lights, and don't run over more than one pedestrian and you'll be fine.
The "written"/computer test will probably be heavy on questions about penalties for offenses and limits and penalties for drink-driving. So mug-up on the drivers manual for your state, which you can download from your state's DMV Web site.

Re: DRIVERS LICENSE
I would recommend, where possible, to use a rural DMV for the road test rather than an inner city.
