Draught Bitter in NYC
 

Guys,

I thought NYC has everything, but there's one thing I can not find at all. It is draught bitter. Does anyone know where one can enjoy a good pint of this delicious beer? Every time I come to UK I load on it and it's the only beer I drink there, but I want to be able to have it where I live too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - whoever provides a good tip can count on a pint from me ! :)

The only place I can think of is that gastropub The Spotted Pig in the West Village....not cheap though but they do have 'Old Speckled Hen' on draught:

I live in the NJ suburbs in the NYC metro area....the v.good Irish pub in Maplewood village has UK beers on draught eg. Boddingtons and John Courage bitter plus Newcastle Brown.... :) Also Stella on draught in some local bars around here. (St. James Gate is 25-30 mins from Penn Station on the Midtown Direct trains to Dover LOL! The pub is spitting distance from Maplewood station....might be worth coming out for Sunday lunch some time, they do good pub food and the town is beautiful, at the foot of the South Mountain Reservation :D

Try the North Star Pub, down at the South Street Seaport. The food is good too.

I thought it had closed down. It wasn't open last time I walked past it, unless someone else has taken it over.

I went to St Andrews in Midtown about a month ago and it does serve very good draught beer in proper UK size pint glasses too! The food there, although expensive, was excellent as well. Definately worth a visit.

One of the best draught beer places in NYC, IMO.

Edit: BTW, the list of brews on their website isn't even close to complete. It looks like it hasn't been updated in a while.

DBA (Doing Business As) is one of the best bars in NYC my opinion, I've been found many a night in there drinking myself stupid...

enormous amount of very good beers from all over the world.

Its also so easy to remember, 1st between 2nd and 3rd...

There's also Swift Hibernian Lounge on E. 4th btwn Bowery and Lafayette. I've rarely had a bad time in that place, and they have a massive selection of beers, both draught and bottled, as well guest beers. Of course you could always head down to the Brooklyn Brewery, though if you don't fancy venturing out that far, there's one on Chelsea Piers, next to the driving ranges.

It still peeves me that you have to tip the barman every time you want a drink. I'm never sure how much to leave....it's one thing if you're just buying a couple of small beers but something else if there's a few of you and you're getting a round in.

I never seem to have $1 bills either when I need them..... :rolleyes:

I always think it's funny that the barman will give all your change in $1 bills to ensure he gets his tip. The good thing about tipping is that after 3 or 4 rounds you normally get a round on the house so it tends to even itself out.

Do you drink at Maxwell's in Hoboken? They have some good bands on there sometimes. There's a 'British' pub near the station - the one with the red telephone box outside but it looks a bit poky and I've never been inside...have you been there?

(I also like the curries at Karma Cafe and that little Cuban place...La Isla something....)

Yes, I've been to Maxwell's a few times. A friend of mine is in a Band who play there now and again. The bar with red phone box by the path is called Scotland Yard. They have live blues/jazz but it is dark and pokey as you say. I went once but didn't think much of it. I think the only only English part of the bar is the phone box outside! I normally drink at Mulligan's on 1st st or Buskers which is virtually next door.

The Mexican across the road from La Isla called Charritos is excellent. It only has about 8 tables but the food is great and it's BYOB.
