Dollar falls to record low

The Dollar has hit an 11 year low against Sterling. Looks like this week would be a good time to transfer money if you're thinking about it!

Huh, it depends on which way you want the money transfer to take place.....:(

We still have obligations in the UK - we still have our house there but the biggest expense is having our eldest at university in England, so we have to wire money over to our offshore account (Isle of Man) whenever the balance gets low - typically around this time of year as we tend to buy Christmas gifts to our family in Britain online so that puts a dent in the current account! :p

Kewl.... I think!

I have a check for 120 quid... what will that get me if I deposit it in my US account tomorrow! ô¿~

(Can I deposit a British cheque?) Auntie Lilly doesn't know Connecticut isn't in Britain and she is too old to have it explained to her!

Another plus for England. Expect to see lots of Brits in America this vacation season.

$2 to the pound soon?

I still think it will go lower actually. no reason for it to rise in the near future.

but hey its still a good price right now if £-$ anyhow.

Perfect! I'm going home on the 25th and change some money to Dollar when I come back. Couldn't be better!
I just hope it holds although I think it probably will. It's been looking "good" or "bad" (depending on your point of view) for quite a while.

A little FYI that we took advantage of on the last pass thru the UK: the Post Office charges no commission and offers *very* competative rates. No limit, but if it's a larger amount, just stop in and order your Am$ ahead of time.

How much cash are you allowed to bring back through customs does anyone know?

Check the US Customs site for specifics, but there is no difference between cash and negotiable paper. You can bring as much as you like, but if it's 10, 000 or more you have to declare it at your entry. No duties or anything, just making sure you're not laundering drug money etc
