dollar down again!!??

OK for all you that have any financial knowlege. The dollar just keeps slipping lower and lower against the pound. I'm going back to UK next year and its very painful watching my money slip away. :( Are there any predictions that the exchange rate might turn around some any time soon?

Be interested to see what people think...

I can't see there being much to change the trend in the near future to be honest...joining the € would be a good equaliser perhaps.

The US is in no rush to strengthen the $. It is helping their exports/trade deficit and also boosting inbound tourism. I've read reports suggesting that $2 is expected in the not too distant future so could be an expensive trip home. Wish I had negotiated to be paid in GBP when I was transfered over here!

My old man owes me £700

I keep telling him there is no rush in paying me back just yet.

I'm no financial expert - but have a large wad of hard earned $'s I am going to change back to quids between now and April to pay of the UK mortgage.

My feeling is sell $'s now as I think it's going to get worse before it get's better -at least in the four month timeframe I'm working to.

I've signed up on XE.COM in the last few days thanks to this site ...
I even used the search function - (so that snippy penguin geezer will be pleased there is at least one new member who knows how to use the search function)

Good one!

I couldn't care less which way it goes as I am pretty much entrenched here in the USA; though I guess a lower dollar is good news in terms of attracting UK/European based clients. I don't see the dollar climbing back very soon. Like a previous poster said, the US doesn't seem to be in a gold rush to pump life back into the dollar. I guess this is payback time (re: France and Germany). Some have observed that Bush might be pushing the Europeans to put pressure on China who have a fixed exchange rate against the dollar, which is apparently adding to the pain of the Europeans. I suppose the Chinese are changing lots of their currency into US dollars to maintain a meaningful fixed exchange rate, but indirectly loosing out against European currencies which are going up relative to the dollar. It will be interesting to see if China blinks first.

It's pretty clear that Bush Junior's tactics are pretty severe for those that manage to irritate him.

There have even been suggestions made that it may drop to as much as $2.50 to the £. I'm seriously, seriously thinking of selling my property in the UK.

With the likely economic policies of the next four years, I wouldn't count on a strong dollar anytime soonn...

I've still got investments in the U.K., brilliant!

There's no need to strengthen the dollar yet. It's attracting tourism and making U.S. goods cheaper overseas.

Rate from Economist.com: 1 GBP = 1.9114 USD

It is pretty great, isn't it!! I have the same tenant in my house at home and the Housing pay the bulk of the rent - she pays the rest whenever she feels like it, but the exchange rate now has really helped me with the shortfall. :)

I'm enjoying this exchange rate too- we have money in UK and hubby gets a company pension paid in pounds. I'm going to bring some over when the rate hits 2 to 1. For years we had the exchange rate hovering around 1.47.. so this is great. I feel for people who will have to convert dollars to pounds at the moment though...ouch!
