Here is a site that is worth bookmarking. www.repairclinic.com

I have a Jenn-Air stove and broke the light switch. Knowing that if you contact Jenn-Air it will cost you big bucks to get a replacement my husband surfed the web and found repairclinic.com. They sell all kinds of bits for appliances from doors to washers to bulbs. Its an easy site to negotiate and their prices were not bad at all, neither is their shipping. You don't need a part number, just need to know what it is. Highly recommended site with a speedy service.

BTW just checked and they do have Kenmore parts as well.

I had the same problem when the front light bulb on my VW Bug needed replacing, the only way to replace it is to take it to a garage as half the engine has to be removed to get at it. I felt such a tit phoning my local garage to book it in for a replacement bulb! I could tell they were thinking 'what a girl' Even the manual says take it to a garage to replace the bulbs...what a bloody expensive farce.

Bloody lazy women and their microwaved dinners. This is a sign from God to stop being so lazy and cook your husband a proper meal, instead of Swanson's Salisbury Steak.

How about a souffle, coq au vin, beef burgundy, eggplant parmesan or other more time consuming dish??

Chuck it down the stairs and tell them its broke and you need a new one.
The only tools I ever see at Sears are the ones working there!

About a week ago, the internal light in the microwave went out and I thought it would be simple task of unscrewing a panel, retrieving the bulb and buying a replacement that I could put in myself.

Unfortunately, that's not what Sears has in mind.

I can't access the bulb from inside the microwave. The only way to the bulb is via the back of the microwave and the back panel is held in with really odd shaped screws (star shaped).

A call to Sears Customer Service revealed that I need to bring the Kenmore microwave into a Sears Parts and Repairs Center to have the bulb replaced.

Cost?

The nearest Parts and Repairs Center doesn't have the bulb in stock so I can order it and have it delivered to my home address-

$12.99 (bulb) + Shipping, Handling & tax = $20.30

Then, once I have the bulb, it's $47.99 (plus tax I think) for the labor to have a guy put the bulb in.

Total = $68.29!!

Bearing in mind the microwave is three years old and cost $90.00 originally, I'm considering buying a replacement and giving away the old one.

What would you do in my situation?

Black and Decker are great for that, everything built to last an average 3 years...which means not very long if you use the power tools often *lol*
