Does anyone know about degrees in the UK?
Do you know what an A 2:2 Degree is?
Also what would an 4 year BA degree from US be classed as in UK? Thanks in advance ladies and gents. I'm finding info for my oldest who asks me random questions I have no idea about  |
Re: Does anyone know about degrees in the UK?
Hi
A 2:2 class degree is call a second class degree. In the uk they come in first, second (both 2:1 and 2:2 ) and third class degrees. That's in the order from the top. Usually they come with (hons) part. A BA in the uk would be a Batchelor of Arts. There are websites which offer to convert your educational achievements, but at a cost. But I should also say that there are many an institution that consider 'where' the degree was obtained - not just the result. |
Re: Does anyone know about degrees in the UK?
From what I remember, 2.2 is like a medium score.
If you get a 1st class you are genius material. Then you can get a 2.1 which is upper second class degree, and 2.2 is kinda medium second class. I can't remember what it goes down to. I think you can get 2.3 and 3.0 also...but I might be making that up  |

Re: Does anyone know about degrees in the UK?
Oh OK I didn't realize there are different classes of degrees, interesting.
So a BA from here needs translating. It's supposed to be one of the tier one top colleges in the US (or was the year he started) I haven't looked since. Whoops I got his degree wrong, it's a BS in Business admin with a core concentration in accounting. That probably will need translating too anyway. |
Re: Does anyone know about degrees in the UK?
For honours degrees the breakdown is roughly:-
1st Class = A grade 2nd Class upper division (2:1) = B grade 2nd Class lower division (2:2) = C grade 3rd Class = D grade |

Re: Does anyone know about degrees in the UK?
IIRC, a 3rd was classed as an "ordinary degree", i.e. not with honours.

A 3rd is a "third class honours degree". Candidates who don't even scrape through with a 3rd may be awarded an "ordinary" degree at some universities. |

Not at any UK university that I ever heard of.

A Desmond is just that. US degrees are normally considered equivalent to UK degrees in the UK (not least because it usually takes a year extra to get the same level of degree in the US).
