can only speak from my own experience. Been in Florida almost 6 years, I love being in Miami. It definitely has its problems but politically I don't personally see any - I have gay friends, they don't feel threatened and there is a gay scene here for sure. I love the diversity. Just come back from a road trip that included Siesta Key (sarasota) and St Augustine and really loved both. There is so much Florida hate out there but it's mostly politically based! I wouldn't live anywhere else :)

Considered buying a condo in Ft Meyers Beach after we did spring break there 2 years ago…. Then a hurricane hit where we had been… and I remembered why I set myself a rule… no new property that’s less than 100’ foot above current sea level… only have one place that below that now in NYC… although I did pick one outside the current hurricane evacuation zones in Brooklyn it may end up being on a [new] inland one day…
