Do you have satellite radio?
I remember, when I was on holiday in the US a few years ago, satellite radio was all the rage. For $10 a month subscription you could get a satellite radio in your car or house, with several hundred stations. I have often wondered why it has not made it down under. I think it would be great. If you have one, how do you like it? Can you get any British stations? Thanks.

I've an XM unit with a docking station in the car and a "boom box" type thing in the house. I swap the reciever between the two. We live out in the sticks and our terrestrial radio choices are limited. I really enjoy it. It has an awesome opera station and a couple excellent old school country and western stations, bluegrass, punk, reggae, several jazz stations, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's everything I like and whatever I happen to be in the mood for.

we use XM around the house. Some good channels on it, but I mainly listen to the Beeb world service though

I have Sirius and think it's great. US radio is pretty dire in most cases, especially when it comes to advertising and the various talking heads.
It does have the BBC world service as well as BBC Radio 1 - on a 5 hour delay, so when they it's 7.30 it is 7.30. There are tonnes of stations so you can slways find something you're in the mood for.

XM's great used to have the world service on 24 / 7. Then I went and bought wireless speakers and now I stream the real beeb (radio 4 & 3) from my computer to any room in the house. These logitech speakers even work right at the bottom of the garden. Perfect.

Just one company now, sirius bought xm off or the other way around.
FIL has it in his pickup as it was free...thought it would be great out in the boonies of maine, but it really is the boonies because the tree's cover the signal and it still don't work

Presumably, with Australia being a large country with a relatively small and dispersed population, it wouldn't be worth sticking the satellites in the sky to beam the signal down. Having said that, I know bugger all about this sort of stuff, so I am only guessing.

Not so fast. There are merger plans, but the government will make them jump through hoops first for fears of a monopoly.
US radio is crap, due to the constant ad breaks and most stations loop the same 20 records day in day out. I've had both XM and Sirius usages and I don't think any car should be without it now.
