Never heard of an Australian company doing this. Apparently, US companies provide health insurance as part of remuneration packages as standard. I asked purely as part of that of including health insurance as part of remuneration within American employment culture did indeed include extended family.

Looks like it doesn't... So an interesting time ahead.

I'd say the only companies in Australia providing health insurance for their employees are indeed US companies, especially as we have a Universal Health system here. From my recall US banks used to provide this in London as well.

BTW guys, Commerce is moving into international employment and non-geo specific positions now, so maybe the remuneration packages are as well JAT

The difference is that because the UK has the NHS adding Bupa may cost $2-3k, the policy in the US is needed and could cost $15-30k depending on how inclusive it is.

There is no way employment can be international, a contract is based on specific law. When I move from the UK I signed a new NY law employment contract and resigned from my UK position. Just because some jobs can be done remote, does not mean it’s legal to do so, you still need to be work authorized for wherever you are working. And in the case of the US not all employers have health Insurnace and workers comp that covers all states, so you can’t just move to Oregon or Florida if you have Tristate health insurance..

Correct, albeit with add on's that are rarely if ever seen, even in the tech field here, that are usually from my limited understanding standard in tech in the US. This is why I posed the specific question here in the US forum.

I could see an Aussie company offering a private health plan (such as Bupa) as a perk for the job.
Still would not think parents would be added.

Why does your daughter believe that her parents can be included on her health insurance? And wouldn't it be a relatively straightforward thing for her to ascertain?

She has.

It's I that was doubtful.

Will your daughter be working for an Australian branch of the US tech company? If not then questions about employment law and taxes will arise.
It sounds like there might have been two mistakes here:

1) The US HR department is reading from some boiler plate US contract
2) Your daughter interpreted the heath insurance part incorrectly.
