VONAGE ARE DIRTY LIARS.

$24.99 eh? Bollocks!

They advertise for $24.99 but forget to tell you about the £12.39 in taxs they add. You name it and they are taxing you for it. All they keep saying is: The Government taxs sir. Charging me for 911 too. I paid my US taxs. Fedral and state so why am I paying again?

Crazy. Guys please watch out with Vonage.

I got talking to Vonage on the phone. Sounded like I was talking to some one in India or China. They never can hear me on the phone. Maybe if they hired telesales a little bit closer geographically they could eh?

So the guy askes if I would like to activate a second line on my account. I tell him no becuase one is perfect enough and it is just me using the phone. So he says ok no problem. Lo and behold the twit goes and activates it any way and I get a bill for $67.56. Do you think I can get through to them to diactivate that line now? Like trying to get blood from a stone.

They say that there is 24/7 support but the truth of it is this: When you cal you can get a "Vonage Associate" 24/7 but do you think that you can get "Customer Support" 24/7? Hell no. After all it is only Customer support that can do anything for you. The Vonage Associate can only perform services which involves taking your money but never correct anything. Funny how Vonage have a 24/7 money taking machine but do not want to keep the real important people around for us needing customers who have issues.

Watch out guys they are crafty. They make Skelator from He-Man look like your Granny.

Income tax does not cover everything the government needs money for so they also tax services like phone, cable, electricity etc....

But Vonage is not taxing you, the government is and Vonage has no choice but to collect it on behalf of the government.

Few places include tax in the price they advertise, always assume there will be taxes added to the price.

It's a telephone company and therefore have to charge telephone taxes. If you had a regular telephone line it would be the same. Mine is $14 or so a month for the line but my bill is over $25 because of the taxes. If you don't want to pay them then you should get rid of the phone. Look up e-rate if you want to know more about what one of the taxes is used for. Bloody good if you ask me, well worth paying for. Although I'm sure not everyone agrees.

This muppet that can't read the small print already posted this comment in a thread but felt the need to repeat himself. So I'll repeat my reply:

Their website tells you exactly what you have to pay. Before ordering, I entered my zip and it told me exactly what I have to pay in taxes. My final monthly bills come in at $31.00.

Everything in this country has tax added, you should know that by now.

Still way cheaper than my crappy low quality BellSouth (or AT&BloodyT).

Never been over charged, support has always been on top of everything and never experienced any down time.

Check out the thread about calling home. Lots of alternative line suppliers suggested there.

We have saved with vonage over the past year we have had it. Our old bills would sometimes go into the $100's if something was going wrong at home. We have had a good service, but the last couple of days has been awful. However we think its the carrier rather than vonage as we are having problems with the FIOS as well. Our old phone company charged taxes and if I recall we were charged for call waiting, caller id and 911. To be honest I am not sure what vonage charge as the hubby pays that bill, but I know overall we still save a large amount. I do know the thing about the customer service though. They drove me nuts when we had to call. But I have found that a lot of customer services are getting a bit sackless these days.

You seem to be more surprised by US business practices than Vonage.

Separate taxing is the norm so no surprises there. Although I presume you were living in a high tax area given the large amounts you quote.

Vonage and Lingo are far, far better than the traditional telephone companies IME. You obviously hadn't suffered them before making your comparison.

Oh, and to comment on the 911 charge. Why is that a surprise? Everybody pays of that and because you chose to use a VoIP service you should have known that there is no way for it to link up to the traditional 911 service like a land line so vonage has chosen to provide one.

try packet8.. its cheaper.. has the same features, more reliable and their tech support is second to none.
I am a genuine happy subscriber not a salesperson for them..
